  • Spring Break

    Well Elijah is on spring break this week. We decided to get out of Dodge. We left on Friday to go to our niece's birthday in Bloomington, IL. Then on Saturday we drove down to Mark's parents place in Mattoon. Its only about an hour and a half. So far we are having a really great time.

    I am trying not to be excited but it is difficult. I got and email from mom and looks like Loudnie may actually get to come home. We have been through this so many times I hate to even hope. But no matter how hard you try not to be it seems you just can't help but get at least a little bit anxious. We will wait and see. I get comments about not adding enough but I can guarantee when Loudnie actually does get home I will leave a long one. UNTIL THEN.

  • Life

    Well, its that time of year again. My couch went to the garage and my sewind machine came into to living room. I think this is the worst I have ever been though. I don't even have any Christmas decorations up yet. Those of you that know me know that this totally not like me. Mark has just been working so much lately. I am up to my eyeballs in projects and Elijah having delays and snow days really messes up my days.

    My few really bright lights in all of this is that it looks like Loudnie will be coming home soon. I am so excited. Good for Mark's family is that we will actually be able to spend time with  at Christmas this year instead of having to wait until Januaty.

    Well that's about all that is going on right now.

  • My Busy Life

    Birthdays

    Well, it's that time of year again! In our family from September to Christmas there are a ton of birthdays and anniversaries. It starts with me on September 1st. Septemper is Me, Harold (Mark's Dad), Mandy and Shane's anniversary, and Braedey's B-dady. October is Mom and Dad's B-days and anniversary, Tyler (Mark's nephew), and Lucas. November is Gideon, Elijah, Loudnie, and Toby (Mark's brother-in-law). December is Mandy and Mark. Oh and of course there is all those regular holidays inserted in there: Labor Day, Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas. Then on top of thath you have Parent-Teacher conferences, Fall Break, Thanksgiving Break, and Christmas Break. There is also the fact that because all of these things cost money you are trying to work in some extra overtime and extra days of working for me.

    I so look forward to January. First semester of school is so incredibley busy for us. I just feel crazy sometimes. But the one saving grace is that my Bible Study started back up this week. It was so great. I go to a bible study on Thursday mornings. It is a group of women almost all either stay at home moms or retired women. I love it. I am one of the youngest in the group and we go all the way up to one woman in her eighties. I gain so much from being in this group. I highly recomend to any woman (especially young moms) (am I still considered a young mom?) to get into some sort of church group with "grandmas". Yesturday we laughed so hard but we still made it through one chapter of 1 Corithians.

    We discussed where Paul is rebuking the Corinthians for using the "love feastes" as a drunken party. He then goes into probably the most read scripture for communion thought. I have read this probably a million times and has never meant the same to me as going through this with these women. We found out that Corinthians was written before any of the gospels. This means that this section of text (in red letter) is the first quoted words of Jesus that the Corinthians hear. ITS ABOUT COMMUNION! I think all to often we as christians over look the meaning and importance of communion.

    I just love hearing the wisdom and deep love these women have for their famlies and for christ. They have lived their lives in the presence of Jesus. I want that. I think the only we can learn to do that is to spend time with these type of women.

  • Birthday!

    Today is my birthday! I am 29 years old. I don't feel too bad about it. Not looking forward to the next one, I know its not a big deal but.

    Anyway, I had a very interesting day. I realized today all the insane ways we celebrate getting older. First thing this morning Mark, Elijah and Gideon sang to me : Happy birthday to you, Happy birthday to you, Happy birthday dear mommy, Happy birthday to you.

    Then my mother-in-law called and sang (bad part is she learned this when she worked in Hospice care and they sang it when employees there had birthdays): Happy birthday oh happy birthday, sickness sorrow and despair people dying everywhere oh happy birthday oh happy birthday, now another year has passed hope that this won't be your last.

    Then my mother called and sang the traditional song.

    Then I got an e-mail from a good friend that reminded me of the past. He sent me a song that we sang in our children church when we were growing up: A happy birthday to you, A happy birthday to you, may you feel Jesus near every day of the year, A happy birthday to you, A happy birthday to you, may this be the best year you ever had.

    Then I got a call from my dad with the traditional  song again.

    Then Elijah at lunch kept singing:

    Happy, happy, happy, happy, Birthday;

    Happy, happy, happy, happy, Birthday;

    Happy, happy, happy, happy, Birthday;

    to you, to you, ole'

    Then I arrived home to a message from my father-in-law singing the "Birthday Dirge" (same thing my mother-in-law sang) with and extra verse:

    All the candles on your cake; A great fire they do make; Happy birthday oh happy birthday.

    After this I sat down to look for the actual lyrics for the dirge and it really is a sick song.

    I just think its a little weird how we celebrate birthdays.

    Thanks for a great one everyone.
